Des Grieux

Dominic’s debut in this Puccini role was in 2001 for Opera Holland Park where he jumped into the production at the last minute and learnt the role in four weeks and sang 4 performances to glowing reviews. His next three performances of this glorious role came in December 2002  when he jumped in to the Danish Royal Opera production in Copenhagen on a week’s notice and with only one three hour piano rehearsal with the conductor Giordano Bellincampi (who had conducted Dominic’s Danish debut as Pinkerton in Madama Buterfly earlier in 2002, another jump in!). His latest production of Manon Lescaut was also in Denmark with Giordano Bellincampi, this time with the Danish National Opera for 22 performances throughout Denmark including the Royal Opera in Copenhagen.

“Thank God for D N ... who transformed dross into gold...his likeable Des Grieux was characterised by glowing Italianate tone, rapturous cantabile singing, the clear delivery of text, and a sure command of the Puccinian line.”

The Stage, David Blewitt

“Vocally excellent”
